2750 sq. ft. interior / exterior renovation and interior design

In this renovation, partitions enclosing rooms were removed and replaced with freestanding cabinetry and walls, permitting views through the house to both the backyard and street. This strategy was used throughout the ground floor producing unexpected glimpses from one room to the next and beyond. The material palate favoured the classic pairing of black and white offset by the rich colour of baked ash wide-plank flooring. Textures and patterns are playful – the powder room walls covered in a silver and black flock damask; the kitchen island and living room bar finished in a bold black and white ‘zebra-wood’ composite wood veneer; and Missoni fabrics enliven the living room. Above the Saarinen table in the kitchen is a playful re-creation of a classic suspension fixture by Marcel Wanders. Upstairs, existing curved walls in the hallway were kept and informed the design of the sculptural solid balustrade that winds up through the house. Black-oiled ash flooring provides a smoky backdrop for an ice-blue and black master bedroom, and a electric aqua coloured children’s room.
